My Identify – Finding A Political Base
So called DALIT, Ambedkarite, Buddhist, Bahujan or Mulnivasi. I always find myself struggling with these words and struggling to find my identity. In India I am called as Dalit, most of the time which I don’t want to be. Now you are surprised that why I am struggling to find my identity. Yes, really is normal but it is not normal for me. To understand this, I have to tell you, my story.
When I was born my family already moved to one of the big cities of India. My grandfather already embraced Buddha with Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar. What is that mean. That mean during Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s revolution my grandfather left the Hindu religion and Dalit caste. Now ideally our family is Buddhist family.
India constitution gave some additional benefits to so called Dalits and registered them as SC (scheduled caste) in all government correspondence. SC people who were converted to Buddhist were wanted to enjoy the additional constitutional benefits. This was obvious because they were converted from one religion to other, but their social conditions were same. There was no change in economical, educational and political challenges for these peoples. In this condition this very important that somebody should lead these people and have guts to represent their problems and issues to government. Have a vision and future policies for these people's developments.
After Baba Saheb Ambedkar many political leaders were came to lead this community, but they are failed to keep them united. Republic Party of India dreamed by Baba Saheb Ambedkar but actually now days run by leaders who supports upper caste people. I called them as “Kattappa” (Kattappa is a character of a big Bollywood hit film BAHUBALI, who take oath to serve the king). So, these people from Republic party of India only supports who are ruling India. They do not have any own agenda and vision for their own community. They even do not oppose policies made by upper caste people and harmful for Dalit peoples. Now days you can find more than 10 party using Republic word but behave like Kattappa. Majority of old people are attached to this because of word Republic which was given by Baha Saheb Ambedkar.
Another leader use Bahujan word to make us united, he tried and able to gather the support of around 25% of population but after his death his followers were failed to continue this movement and leadership. Now Bahujan leadership is also facing people support challenges in some part of India. They are divided and they do not have any national leader now days.
There are some strong leaders who are now working to unit these people, but they are unable to reach at national level leadership. Mulnivasi is other word used by these leaders to make us unit. Problem seems that these all leaders are working individually to make us united. If leaders are not united, then how can they create a political pressure for betterment of this community?
This is very similar to withdrawing the water form a bucket by many people and each one is expecting all the water. I called all of them “Avantika” (A character again from Bahubali film, who tried her best to release queen but never succeed).
People from this community are now divided into small groups and every day they are thinking who the right leader is? Who is taking us towards Baba Saheb’s dream. Who is betraying us? I called them “Devsena” (A character again from Bahubali, who was in prison from last so many years and Avantika and team is trying to free her) as they are waiting for another Bahubali (A character again from Bahubali film) who will free them form all difficulties, fears and worries.
At the end, people from this community are struggling to find a strong political support.
